CCL Weekly Update – 4/15/2021

April showers …

Dreary days here. It’s ok. The poor man’s fertilizer that’s to follow the much needed rain is all good.

Today we hear from the governor that the state’s mask mandate is to be lifted. He said that he expects people still to wear masks and take the precautions we’re used to. It just won’t be an order from the state any more. Our own Covid Response Team reinforces that message to remain cautious and diligent in our efforts to keep each other safe. (There’s a bit more information below.) Let’s keep the masks on, when we can’t be safely distanced, for a while longer. We know it helps.

There’s much to be thankful for in this early spring. We got through a long year. We worked together and learned many important things about ourselves and what we can do. We proceeded with patience, creativity, civility, and humor. We are a giving, loving community. Thank you for your role in this gift.

There is blooming ahead.

With Love,  Patty

News and Notes:

Covid Vaccination and State Mask Mandate Updates.

If you haven’t yet, go to vaccines.nh.gov and register. You may also call 211. You will be sent a link and instructions to schedule your appointment. If your originally scheduled appointment doesn’t work for you, the new VINI scheduling system allows you to change to one that’s more convenient, without having to cancel your current appointment.

Margaret Caudill-Slosberg (“EOC Lyme” on the Listserv) continues to keep us informed as the systems and conditions evolve. Watch for her emails. Call 603-795-0603 or email help@cclyme.org if you have questions or need any help getting – or getting to – your vaccination appointment.

Click here for a WMUR story about the Governor’s announcement and expectations for safe behavior going forward. Here’s the note Margaret shared today: Even though the state mask mandate will expire tomorrow we encourage all community members to wear masks when in public places indoors or when 6 ft of separation cannot be maintained. COVID infections are still present and have risen in the community, our county and are elevated in the state. We have all 3 variants present in the state and not everyone is protected with vaccination against SARS CoV-2. Masks are recommended in Lyme.

April 16th is National Healthcare Decisions Day – Do you have an up-to-date healthcare advance directive?

Here’s information from the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Aging Resource (ARC) about the effort across New Hampshire to encourage conversations with providers and families or friends about how we would like decisions made about our healthcare in the event we cannot speak for ourselves. It’s important. The ARC provides free advance directive support. Learn more at 603-353-3403. The Lyme Parish Nursing team can also help you complete advance directives. If you haven’t started the process, why not today?

“Our Hour” – Lots of Laughter!

You can read about the fun we had at this week’s Zoom gathering here. The next Our Hour Zoom gathering will be Tuesday, May 11 at 10:30 and the theme will be “May Flowers and Mothers”. We also discussed the option of getting together, outside. We may pick a second time to do both! Please bring your interests, thoughts, quotes, poems, memories and stories to share. Please RSVP to debbie@cclyme.org, and let me know whether you’d like to meet by Zoom or in person (or both!). I will send you more details.

Lyme Scholarship Applications

College students from Lyme, or students having close ties to the Lyme community, may apply for Lyme scholarships for undergraduate study by requesting an application from Bill Murphy at wnmurphy38@gmail.com or 795-2287, or 40 Preston Road. The Common Application is used by The Lyme Foundation’s William and Justine Griffith Fund, The Lyme Utility Club, The Nichols Family Scholarship Fund, The LCC Women’s Fellowship, The Alice B. Thayer Scholarship Fund, The Al Pomeroy Scholarship Fund and The Lyme Educational Assistance Fund. The deadline for submitting applications is May 25, 2021, and interviews will be held on June 21, 22, and 23 with grants being made shortly thereafter. Last year the committee was able to award over $36,000.

Those Guys Tent Rentals

Those Guys will once again be renting their tents for this coming outdoor season. As always, funds raised through this effort are distributed to community organizations. (CommunityCare of Lyme has benefited from this generosity!) Of course, all rentals will hinge on the continued improvement in the safety reached for outdoor gatherings vis-a-vis the pandemic. Update details coming.
