CCL Weekly Update – 8/6/2020

One Word

Recently I received a message from our friend Sarah Shipton, with a timely share for sure.

The one word of the moment is “dugnad(pronounced doog-nahd). It’s a lovely concept that’s untranslatable, but we recognize it in Lyme. It describes a Norwegian cultural tradition where community members work toward a common goal, for the greater good of all. The article shared by Sarah, “One Word Saved Norway from COVID-19 Disaster” is very informative and seems to describe exactly what CommunityCare of Lyme is all about, and specifically what Lyme is famous for.

As we continue to face the uncertainties and ever-changing patterns of our lives, in these bizarre and kind of scary times, can we think about “dugnad”? If we are responsive, kind and considerate, we can win this war against disease, distrust and disbelief. CommunityCare of Lyme continues its mission to be there for what’s needed where you need it most

Thank you to Sarah for sending this interesting and uplifting educational moment. Open the link to read the article and see the similarities she saw in Lyme! This morning, the Select Board passed a resolution to wear masks in Lyme. The School Board, school, and staff continue to advance plans for educating our children. Our commitment to coming together as a community in Lyme and across the Upper Valley – to dugnad – could make all the difference in how we lift up everyone’s health and well-being.

I hope your recovery from the storm is happening and that you’re looking forward to another beautiful summer week.

As always, there are some important events and great activity options listed after this message. For more, take a look at the Lyme Events Calendar online, being updated with new events all the time.

Wishing us all dugnad.

With Love,  Patty

Don’t forget:

Mask Up, Lyme.

Mine’s for You, Yours is for Me … Let’s keep the virus out of Lyme and stay safe for school (and so much more we’re eager to get back to normal.) The Select Board passed a resolution today, requesting masks be worn in Lyme when social distancing is not possible. Read the resolution. If you need masks, see the Friday and Saturday (8/7 & 8/8) mask give-aways at the DHMC Parking Lot #9 behind Jesse’s for 2 free masks for each family member. You can also call CommunityCare of Lyme at 795-0603 or email help@cclyme.org for masks.

Coming up this next week:

As school nears, more is opening up; and more people are coming to Hanover and across the Upper Valley for the start of Dartmouth’s Fall semester. As you are out and about, please be thoughtful about how to keep yourself and others safe and healthy. Wear a mask when you are in public. Continue to keep a safe distance. Stay home if you are sick at all. Check out the growing listing of events on the Lyme Events Calendar online. We invite you to let us know about other things you think we should share. Following are just a few highlights.
