A new seven-week series of yoga at the Academy Building in Lyme Center will begin on Tuesday, November 7, and continue on Tuesdays for a total of seven weeks, ending on December 19.

Evening classes begin at 5:45 PM and end at about 7:15 PM.
$84 for each series of seven classes or $16 by the class.

Join me for this upcoming eight-week series of yoga focused on building strength, balance and flexibility through standing, prone and seated poses. The classes just prior to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays will be restorative in nature. Evening and morning classes are pretty much the same and you may choose to attend either class on any given day.
Over the course of this series, once again, we’ll explore the gunas. In the philosophy of yoga, all matter in the universe arises from the fundamental substrate called Prakriti, which is nature in all her aspects. From this ethereal Prakriti the three primary gunas or qualities emerge creating the essential aspects of all nature—energy, matter and consciousness. These three gunas are tamas (darkness and inertia), rajas (activity and movement), and sattva (beingness and equanimity). All three gunas are always present in all beings and objects surrounding us but vary in their relative amounts. We humans have the unique ability to consciously alter the levels of the gunas in our bodies and minds. The gunas cannot be separated or removed in oneself, but can be consciously acted upon to encourage their increase or decrease. A guna can be increased or decreased through the interaction and influence of external objects, lifestyle practices and thoughts.

Drop-ins and beginners are welcome in all classes; poses will be modified for suitability for those who are less strong, flexible or familiar with yoga. Wear comfortable clothes, and please bring your own mat and a sturdy cotton or wool blanket.
For my planning purposes, please let me know if you’re planning to attend the series.
