About the Lyme Historians

The Lyme Historians, Inc. was founded  in 1961 with the purpose of  helping to document the town’s history,  keeping  it alive and relevant to the present day by maintaining exhibits and collections and acquiring books, maps, documents and artifacts pertaining to Lyme, New Hampshire. Clyde Grant, Lucy King and Dorothy W. Sears served on the first organization committee. The Lyme Historians incorporated as a nonprofit organization in 1988.

Over the years the Lyme Historians have had several homes. Their first home in 1964 was the Lyme Center Academy Building, then moving to a series of locations around Lyme.   In 2002 after assisting with successful fundraising, and subsequent renovation of the Academy Building, the Lyme Historians returned to the historical museum space on the first floor of the Academy.  After years of constant growth, the Lyme Historians finally purchased the Judge Churchill house at 15 Main Street, across from the Lyme Common and opened in their new location in late 2016.
