Small Island, Big Song: Music and Discussion

Friday, April 15
5:30 pm
to 6:30 pm EDT

Free – RSVP Required – https://uvmusic.org/event/small-island-big-song-music-and-discussion

Small Island Big Song is a music and multimedia project featuring over a hundred musicians representing 35 Native peoples from 16 island nations across the Pacific and Indian oceans. These musicians maintain the cultural voice of their people, singing in their native language and playing the instruments of their land. With music, spoken word, and film, the artists blend their musical traditions with contemporary styles to create the musical statement about the region’s cultural and environmental challenges.

The ensemble will be performing at the Hopkins Center April 16, and visit UVMC while they’re in town for a chance to share music and conversation. Meet the artists, hear their story, and get the chance to see and hear the instruments up close. The ensemble performing at the Hop includes artists from Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Taiwan, Tonga, Mauritius, and beyond, so we’ll have the chance to learn about musical traditions that aren’t frequently heard in the Upper Valley!

Space is limited; please RSVP to reserve a spot. Open to all ages, most appropriate for later elementary aged children through adults. Please review UVMC’s COVID policies if you plan to attend.
