CReW!

Cancer Recovery Through RoWing
We want YOU to join our team

Contributions by And Morse, Team Captain

“No experience necessary! A FREE land and water-based rowing program open to all those who are living with cancer, whatever their stage of treatment or recovery.”

Research shows there are many benefits rowing offers to people in all stages of cancer treatment and recovery. Here are just a few benefits to consider:

“Research proves that moderate exercise during and after treatment:

  • Improves mood & self-esteem
  • Lessens fatigue
  • Strengthens bones
  • Improves balance
  • Improves sleep
  • Improves your physical health and overall quality of life
  • Lowers the risk of anxiety and depression
  • Helps control your weight

Exercise also may help to reduce the risk that your cancer returns”

Furthermore, this program consists of many opportunities to socialize and connect with other members of the team. While CReW is not a cancer support group, it is an awfully supportive group. There is no experience necessary to become a participant and with seven highly accomplished volunteer coaches, you’ll be sure to get the most out of each CReW practice.

The Upper Valley Rowing Foundation  provides free membership for all CReW members along with free equipment use, and free program entry fees for participants. The only *cost associated with CReW is for membership to USRowing which costs $25 a year for new members and $20 per year for existing members.

Currently practices are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Do you have additional questions? Would you like to learn more about joining our CReW? Please contact team leaders at UVRFcrew or Head Coach Carin Reynolds.

*If the cost of membership to USRowing is a challenge, please know you have options. The UVRF has scholarship support and CommunityCare of Lyme can help cover membership fees too.
