“Happy 5th Birthday”

Submitted to the Lyme Listserv by Mark Bolinger

Hi Lyme.  Just a quick public service announcement from the Lyme Energy Committee to share two noteworthy milestones achieved by the 18 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of Lyme’s Town Hall building:  it turns 5 years old this week, and generated its 100,000th kilowatt hour (kWh) today!

If you happen to see it, please wish it a “Happy 5th Birthday” and congratulate it on joining the 100k kWh club.

How much is 100,000 kWh, you ask?

Enough to light one million 100-watt incandescent bulbs for one hour, or…

Enough to light ten million 10-watt LED bulbs (each of which produces the same amount of light as a 100-watt incandescent bulb) for one hour, or…

Enough to power the Town Hall building for five years (i.e., the PV system generates about as much electricity as the building consumes each year).

All that without any movement, without making any noise, without requiring any refueling, without emitting any kind of exhaust.  Amazing.

Many happy returns!
